“In nature, light creates the color. In the picture, color creates the light” – Hans Hoffman
When working outdoors (and in the studio) landscape painters are constantly in search of a color solution that works right. We may follow nature’s lead, borrowing considerably from what we see, but successful color also involves the application of a strategy. This video clip talks about those strategies in general and gives specific examples of the analogous harmony and complementary color strategies.

Very clear and informative Mitch. I look forward to seeing more of your videos.
Very articulate and fun video clip.
Mitch! In your “analogous” wardrobe, perfectly suited to your environment, you again present to me what a great teacher you are. Per your recommendation, I am re-reading John Carlson’s book on Landscape Painting and finding it the perfect pairing with your book. I need to do a bit of catching up on watching your videos.
